What is Critical Infrastructure and CIP? Critical infrastructure is defined by the Office of Homeland Security as those assets, facilities, industries, and capabilities that are needed to support commerce and our daily lives This includes energy, utility, oil & gas, financial, communications, and transportation to name a few. SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), Control Systems, and other high availability environments also fall under this category. CIP stands for Critical Infrastructure Protection. It is the protection of our critical infrastructure.
